Be Active To Be Fit

When you consume more calories than you burn, your body saves the excess energy as fat. 3,500 calories is the equivalent of one pound of excess weight that no one wants! Obviously, on the flip side, when you burn more calories than you ingest each day, you will lose weight.

Staying active will only help you get fit (or stay fit!) and drop those extra pounds you might have acquired due to stress, eating too much greasy pizza or other lifestyle factors. The list below describes five everyday activities and the surprising number of calories they burn per hour:

  1. Archery - 246
  2. Billiards - 186
  3. Bowling – 219
  4. Horseback riding – 236
  5. Stretching – 180

Want to increase your level of calorie burning even more? Here are five more intense activities and the amount of calories they burn per hour:

  1. Beach volleyball - 563
  2. Ice hockey - 563
  3. Shoveling snow - 422
  4. Swimming laps - 511
  5. Tennis (singles) – 563

If working out is new to you, remember that any level of activity is better than sitting on the couch. Easing yourself into intense activities is smart and your progress will be interesting for you to track. If you like swimming, mark your development by writing down the number of laps you do and try to increase it each visit to the pool. Your ability to double or triple the number of laps might surprise you and pair alongside your weight loss results!

Please note the number of calories burned is based on a person weighing 150 lbs. If you weigh more than 150 lbs., you will burn more calories, and if you weigh less than 150 lbs., you will burn fewer calories.
